Netbook with UNR

Sunday!, Finally I found a free time to write an article for my blog. For this article I thought of a suitable topic and final I caught one. That is UNR (Ubuntu Netbook Remix) and Netbook.

To see the screen cast just download the video and see how it look like. Watch

In my previous article I mention that I bought a netbook. So my total concentration moves to what kind of operation system match for my netbook. At that point I found this open source operation system specially optimize for the netbooks.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR) is a 'remix' of the standard Ubuntu Desktop release, enabling you to work better on devices with small screens, such as netbooks and sub-notebooks. You have access to all the same applications any Ubuntu user has, plus some enhancements to the user interface. And last but not least the optimization for intel atom processors.

For example: All applications are opened "maximized", giving you the most of your screen space.

· Just one, top, panel.

· A "Desktop" that gives you easy access to all applications and Places.

· Self-definable Favorites giving you fast access to your most used applications, websites and storage.

These things are what they ask their product. Therefor I want to feel the actual performance of the UNR. So I installed UNR 9.10 and see the deferent with Windows 7. The thing is UNR is damn fast when we compare it with Windows 7. The reason is lot of unnecessary modules remove from the parent development. As a result of that, the booting times, application running delay are very low.

The other thing is less hardware requirement.

· Processor: Intel® Atom™ processor

· RAM: 512 MB

· Storage: 4 GB Flash disk (SSD) or hard disk

Compatibly of UNR with popular Netbooks. See

I’m writing here only summery of my feel. It can be not tally with your choice. So better install it yourself and see how much it wonders you. For that Ubuntu will release new revolution product in few days (29/04/10). That is UNR 10.04. So download it and try yourself.

Thanks
